Nazil Robin

Nazli immigrated to Canada in 2017. Immediately she decided to restart her education in Biomedical sciences at Ryerson University, where she also started her journey in research. She worked in Dr. Antonescu’s lab, where she focused on the role of cell surface receptors in the progression and migration of Breast cancer cells. She completed her bachelor’s degree in 2021. After graduation, she joined Dr. Schertzer’s lab at McMaster University as a master’s student and now as a PhD student.

As a cholesterol-lowering medication, statins have some side effects, including muscle aches, exercise intolerance, and myopathies in some severe cases. In these cases, the only option is to terminate treatment with statins. Nazli is interested in understanding what causes these side effects at the cellular level and how we might prevent or treat them without terminating the therapy.

Nazli is interested in reading, writing, and living a healthy life outside the lab. She spends a great deal of her time outside the lab with her family and her beloved dog. She also fosters dogs to help them find their forever homes
