RODRIGO LACERDA

Rodrigo is a trained pharmacist (2013) and obtained his masters in Cellular and Molecular Biology (2015), both from the Federal University of Paraíba (Brazil). He obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmacology (2019) at the University of Campinas (Brazil). During this time, he also worked at the King's College London (England), examining the consequences of maternal obesity on lung inflammatory development in the offspring. After his doctorate, he worked in the private sector as a scientific advisor in clinical and pharmaceutical bioequivalence studies.

He returned to academia at the University of Campinas (2020) as a postdoctoral fellow, examining differences in lung inflammatory development dependent on sex and age generated during obesity and weight loss. During this period, he begun collaborating with Dr. Schertzer at the McMaster University, and subsequently joined the lab as a postdoctoral research fellow.

Rodrigo's research is currently focused on defining the role of compartmentalized bacteria that impact the progression of type 2 diabetes, while also identifying possible biological variables related to sex and age.

His hobbies include running, biking, and enjoying big cups of coffee.
